Communicating Student Learning: update
Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is pleased to announce it will be piloting its new elementary report cards in the 2015-2016 school year. Developed by EIPS, the report cards are designed to enrich achievement for students in grades 1 to 6 and enhance the quality of education within EIPS by building strong partnerships among students, teachers, and parents.
Last year, EIPS established a Communicating Student Learning committee, made up of parents, teachers, administrators, trustees, and central office staff. Using feedback from close to 1,000 parents and 400 principals and teachers, the committee has produced an innovative reporting system focused on student achievement in academic outcomes and learner attributes.
Teachers will continue to assess all areas of the current programs of studies. What will change is the way in which student learning is reported. Using a five-point numeric scoring scale, teachers will indicate student achievement in clear, parent-friendly categories in each subject. The current EPAL scale will no longer be used. Additionally, the reports card will also allow teachers to report personalized information about each student in relation to learner attributes, areas of strength, areas for growth, and next steps.
EIPS is excited about its new method of communicating student learning, it’s innovative, inclusive, and based on what stakeholders have indicated they want to see in a reporting system. The pilot will take place in 11 EIPS elementary schools. The full implementation of the report cards will take place in 2016-2017 school year.

Study www.exambank.com Online
As exam season quickly approaches, you are probably looking for resources to help your children prepare. You may wish to consider visiting www.exambank.com – an online study tool designed specifically for Alberta students writing their government achievement tests and diploma exams in Grades 6, 9 and 12. No special software is required – you can use the service from any computer with an Internet connection.
On Exam Bank, students can practice sample tests in the subject area they choose. When a test is completed, it is automatically marked for the student so they can immediately see where their strengths and weaknesses lie. The tests are randomly generated from a large selection of questions, so students can write an exam multiple times to become better prepared.
