February 3 Fire Wire

Happy Monday!

From spring like temperatures to blustery winds and winter wonderland landscapes to this weekend's deep freeze, the first month and a bit of 2025 have definitely given us a little of everything.

This is a short week for students. It is early dismissal on Wednesday and school is closed Thursday and Friday as teachers engage in their own learning at Teacher's Convention.

There are some important things to watch for this month:

It's a great week for a great week!

High School Open Houses

To help students and their families make informed decisions about next school year, senior high schools across the Division will host open houses throughout the upcoming registration season to share information about specific courses, programming and extracurricular opportunities available.

Plan to attend one or more of the open houses near you.

For those who were unable to attend the Division High School Information Session on January 13, a copy of the presentation and recording of the information will be available on eips.ca later in January.

Kindergarten Registration is Now Open!

Is your child turning five on or before Dec. 31, 2025? If so, it’s now time to register for kindergarten. To register, simply complete the online registration form at eips.ca/kindergarten.

To help families prepare, Elk Island Public Schools has put together an online EIPS Kindergarten Tool kit to make the transition as smooth as possible. The kit includes information on registration, important dates, programming options, what to expect, eligibility, how to find your designated school, transportation and more.

New for the 2025-26 school year, EIPS is piloting three full-day, every-day kindergarten programs. If interested, families can register their children for these programs until February 28. Learn more

b and d Reversal Practice at Home

A common misconception about reading is that letter reversals are a sign of dyslexia. Did you know that b and d reversals can be changed with practice drills? Here is link to show you how they can practice this at home to help your child(ren) “re-wire” their brain to eliminate reversals.

Please contact Carrie at ceckersley78@gmail.com to inform her of your choice. We would also like to remind ordering families to check their childrens field trip schedules on the firewire/calendar from now until June. Staff Recognition

Complete your Returning Student Registration: February 10-24

Elk Island Public Schools’ (EIPS) returning student registration process is now open. All current students, except Grade 12, must complete the online Returning Student Registration Form to confirm their enrolment in a school and program for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. Additionally, students who want to attend a non-designated school or program need to make that request through the returning student registration process—acceptance is based on available space. All current EIPS students are required to complete the form by Feb. 24, 2025.

To complete your child’s returning student registration, refer to the Returning Student Registration Form email you received from Elk Island Public Schools through Permission Click on February 10. Families will receive one email for each student. No login is required to complete the form.

For more information, contact the school directly.
