Learning Commons FAQ's

  • Welcome to the Fultonvale Learning Commons (an inclusive, flexible, learner-centered space for collaboration, inquiry and imagination to expand and deepen learning). We hope you enjoy this space and we work hard to make it inviting and welcoming.  The Learning Common’s roles are to support the curricular needs of the students, as well as offer many options for homework and research assistance, storytelling and pleasure reading.

When is the Learning Commons open?

The Learning Commons is open from 8:00 a.m. until 2:40 p.m., unless otherwise posted.

How can I access the Learning Commons catalogue?

Destiny Website

(Google Chrome is recommended. Internet Explorer may show an error. If so, it is safe to click on "Continue to this website (not recommended)").

  • On the District level page, click on "Fultonvale Elementary-Junior High School" under the K-9 section on the right-hand side.
  • Each student can log in at the top right of the next page with FirstnameLastname (no spaces) as their username and the last four digits of their Alberta Student ID as their password.
  • Once logged in students can manage their account by seeing which items they have out, when those items are due and if they have any fines.

How many books can I check out?

Currently the maximum number of items a student may check out is 7 (which includes any text books and/or novel studies books). 

The loan period for books checked out from the Learning Commons is 2 weeks.

Any students who have overdue Learning Commons materials will not be allowed to borrow additional items. 

Lost or damaged items are the responsibility of the student, and will be billed for cost replacement.

May I renew materials?

Yes - as long as the materials are not overdue and/or have not been requested by another student.  Please see staff in the Learning Common to renew.

May I place materials on hold?

Yes. Using our catalogue, holds can be placed on items. Also, items can be placed on hold .

Can my parents visit the Learning Commons?

Yes!  We would love to share our love of literacy with all families and everyone is encouraged to come down to the Learning Commons to visit or volunteer.  For anyone interested in visiting the school, please register at the office to receive a guest pass.

Do you want to know if we have a book in the Learning Commons?  You can search from home!  Click on  Destiny Catalog.

To access the catalog from school, you will have a link to Destiny on your Desktop.  If you do not see a link, please contact Mr. Papineau-Couture.

E-Books!

TumbleBooks is an online program with a variety of fiction eBooks. Schools pay a yearly subscription for unlimited use of this resource for both students and staff. This resource is password protected, however students can easily access this program from home by getting the password from their teacher.

BookFLIX

This online resource provides interactive fiction and nonfiction books organized into a variety of themes. In Alberta we are so fortunate that this resource is provided free of charge to all students via the Learn Alberta website. At school students can access this resource without a username or password. At home students will need their username and password which can be found in the Media/Library section of their agenda.
