K-6 Students Online Learning Update
As you know, students in K-6 will transition to online learning from January 6 – 8, 2021. We put a schedule in place that follows guidelines from EIPS and is hopefully easy to follow and understand. As well, in some cases we hope it allows for sharing of devices and for your home networks to be able to accommodate increased traffic. While planning we also realized that we can’t adjust the schedule to fit all family scenarios.
Below is a summary of what Fultonvale’s plan is:
Brightspace and Google Meet
Students and staff have been hard at work preparing by practicing using Brightspace and Google Meet. All online content and links to Google Meets will be accessed through Brightspace.
Daily Whole Class Instruction
Temporary online learning will take place in a synchronous format. All students will attend virtual classes in literacy (Language Arts) and numeracy (Mathematics) based on this schedule.
Students in Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2
8:45 – 9:15 a.m. - Literacy (Language Arts)
12:50 – 1:20 p.m. - Numeracy (Mathematics)
Students in Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5 and Grade 6
8:10 – 8:40 a.m. - Literacy (Language Arts)
12:15 – 12:45 p.m. - Numeracy (Mathematics)
Daily Small Group Instruction/Support
Your child(ren) will also receive daily instruction and/or support in a small group in both Literacy and Numercy. Your child(ren)’s teacher(s) will communicate these details to you directly. Students who are not in small-groups have time to work on assignments.
Expectations
As if your child(ren) was attending in-person learning, every student is expected to attend each whole class instruction session and their small group sessions daily. We also expect:
- work to be handed in on time.
- work to be completed to the best of her/his ability.
- students to reach out for support if they need it.
- staff to reach out to students if they feel they need support.
Materials and Resources
Teachers may be sending materials and/or resources home before Christmas Break to ensure students are prepared.
Attendance
Teachers will be taking attendance once in the morning and once in the afternoon for whole class instruction virtual sessions. As a result, please let the office know if your child(ren) will not be attending.
Just a reminder that, from January 6 – 8, students in Grades 7, 8 and 9 will continue to learn from home and follow their daily online schedule, as they are currently doing.
