April 7 Fire Wire

Happy Monday!
In addition to some great events last week such as the student vs staff basketball game and Sports Day, we also had our April Assembly focusing on Choosing Respect and Kindness. We talked about how we create community by showing respect and kindness to one another and to stand up for each other. We reviewed what bullying is and how to stand up to bullying. We also revisited lessons Toni Harrison shared during his presentations in January. We reminded all students of the high expectations we hold for how we treat one another at Fultonvale. By cultivating a culture of kindness and respect, we help build a safe and inclusive community where everyone feels valued.
Thank you, families, for your ongoing support in helping us nurture a kind and compassionate school community. More information and resources from the assemblies can be found in the blog post article below and photos from our great week have been captured in the Fultonvale Highlights photo gallery.

**UPCOMING APRIL LUNCHES & NOTES**
Happy Monday FTV families. Hope everyone had a great spring break and are ready to get back into the swing of things! Here is the upcoming list and order closing dates of lunches for April along with other info at bottom:
- Wednesday April 9 - Mucho Burrito (closes Fri Apr 4)
- Thursday April 17 - Boston Pizza (closes Sat Apr 12)
- Wednesday April 23 - Nitza's & Confetti Sweets (closes Fri Apr 18)
- Thursday May 1 - KFC & Confetti Sweets (closes Sat Apr 26)
As we are headed into Field trip season, please note your child (rens) schedules before ordering in advance.
If you need your child’s hot lunch sent home with a sibling, please email Carrie at ceckersley78@gmail.com by the day before or no later than 9 AM on the day of hot lunch. To keep things running smoothly, we ask that students do not come to the concession room looking for a sibling’s lunch, as we are busy managing classroom bins and distribution. Instead, Carrie will ensure the lunch is sent to the sibling’s classroom to be taken home.
Thank you for your cooperation and for your continued support of our fundraising efforts! With only 10 hot lunches left before the end of the school year, we’re excited for each one!

INFORMATION
April Assembly Resources
During the April assemblies we reviewed what bullying is and isn't with students as well as what to do when bullying is occurring. We also talked about the importance of being an ally and standing up to bullying.
In the Kindergarten - Grade 4 assembly we talked about the difference between mean acts, conflict and bullying. In the Grade 5 - Grade 9 assembly we talked about the difference between conflict, being rude or mean and bullying. Below are the definitions shared during the assemblies which we hope also support families you navigate these conversations at home.
Numeracy Corner - Fact Fluency through Games
Fact fluency develops through a balance of strategy-based practice and intentional memorization. Research from Graham Fletcher and Jennifer Bay-Williams highlights the
importance of efficiency, flexibility, and accuracy—helping students recall facts while also understanding and applying them.
Games are a powerful way to build fluency, and the Math Fact Fluency Companion Site offers additional resources to support this work. It includes digital games, strategy videos, and downloadable tools that complement the games found in the Building Fact Fluency kit. Blending strategy, play, and memorization makes fluency practice both meaningful and engaging!
Literacy Corner
- Experience Read Along Poetry Videos
- Find out more about the Edmonton Poet Laureate
- Visit the Strathcona County Library to meet their Writer in Residence and hear local poets share their work
- The League of Canadian Poets has great resources, especially for older children, to explore Canadian poetry
EIPS Annual Education Results Report
